Need a hand with Simple Tuner? You're in the right place — most questions are answered below.
Frequently asked questions
The tuner isn't picking up my guitar
- Make sure Simple Tuner has microphone access: Settings → Simple Tuner → Microphone.
- Play closer to the mic and let the note ring — the reading settles after the attack.
- Remove a case that may be covering the microphone, and avoid noisy rooms.
Why does it say "LISTENING…"?
That's the resting state when no clear pitch is detected yet. Pluck a single string and let it sustain; the big letter and cents readout update as soon as it locks on.
What tuning does it use?
Standard guitar tuning — E A D G B E — with the reference pitch at A4 = 440 Hz. Auto-detect figures out which string you're playing; you can also tap a string to lock onto it.
How do I read the display?
The large letter is the target note. The arc and needle, plus the cents readout, show how flat or sharp you are. When you're within a few cents, it reads IN TUNE and gives a gentle haptic tap.
What are the Scales for?
The Scales tab is a reference for finding your sound — scales grouped by genre (blues, folk, soul, reggae). Tap one to see it laid out on the fretboard, transpose it to any root, and tap the heart to save it to your favorites.
Does it work on iPad?
Simple Tuner is built for iPhone. It will run on iPad in compatibility mode, but the layout is designed for iPhone.
Is my audio recorded or sent anywhere?
No. Audio from the microphone is analyzed on your device, in real time, and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Getting the best results
Tune in a quiet room and play one string at a time, letting each note ring until the reading settles. If a reading looks off, make sure nothing is covering the microphone and that the app has microphone access in Settings.
